Backford, Mollington & District
 Local History Society

Our Society

We were founded in the autumn of 2002, with the aim of reaching out to all residents and friends of the townships and making them more aware of their historical legacy.

We welcome all persons interested in local history, from those who are experts in niche fields, to those who just like hearing tales about the past. We can usually put any of your other talents, e.g. organizational, technical, secretarial, mechanical and of course, historical, to good use!

We regularly welcome speakers about local historical subjects, e.g. local stately homes, persons, firms or areas of local archaeological interest. We also organise regular visits to various sites connected with local history over a wide area of North Cheshire and North Wales. For the latest such events do check out these on our Facebook page here.

Members are encouraged to take part in joint village activities e.g. helping celebrate the Queen’s Jubilees with appropriate historical input.

During this time we have also published two books of essays about the history of the local area and also produced two DVDs about Backford Hall and Park.

We are based in villages close to Chester and meet in The Five Villages Hall, in Backford, but our area of interest extends to the Wirral, the whole of northern Cheshire and North Wales.

We arrange several guided visits or walks each year to places of historical significance and also produce an electronic newsletter and occasional publications.

You can also find more information on our Facebook page including announcements of future events.
